Luxury Lodge
Located a short five minute drive up the hill from downtown Queenstown lakeshore, Azur is a luxury design lodge that managed to put a dent in the demand for area hotspots like Blanket Bay and Matakauri Lodge. Owned by former Mandarin Oriental execs who sought to create a fashionable luxury lodge with a small town aesthetic not lost in 5-star service or over-the-top design. The result is Azur, one of the toughest reservations in town, that begins with private luxury SUV transfer from the local airport to the cozy hillside cluster of Zen-meets-New England cottage design composed of freestanding villas and infinite views of The Remarkable. The resort sprawls around a luch landscape that recedes for outdoor fireplaces surrounded in club lounges and large terraces that lead to post-and-beam inspired interiors.
The Room
A total of nine rooms are contained within freestanding cottages that line the perimeter of the property. Private entrances open to sprawling living spaces alit in natural sun from asymmetrical windows that run the spine of some cottages, with stacked-stone fireplaces surrounded in creamy white couches with black piping and leather club chairs with a shiny glow. Ceilings are lined in natural timber, some rooms even with A-frame ceilings, continuing into large bedrooms with picture windows overlooking the lake near large fireplaces that are brought to roar by turndown staff in the evening or before breakfast that’s enjoyed in-room or at the main lodge. More tempered bathrooms are surrounded in slate tiles with freestanding jet-bathtubs under accordion windows that open to fresh air and occasional views of winter snowfall.
